“As we have a good time our state’s independence, it’s crucial to remember to achieve this appropriately and responsibly,” stated DPS Director Steven McCraw. “We want to remind every person to follow published velocity limits, put on your seat belt, and designate a sober trip home. Remember, if you see an emergency car or tow truck on the facet of the road, gradual down or pass over. By celebrating responsibly, you may help ensure all of us make it domestic accurately.”

Operation Holiday runs at the side of the Fourth of July and is geared closer to individuals who violate traffic laws. During the remaining 12 months’ holiday enforcement marketing campaign, DPS Troopers issued more than 57,000 citations and warnings, including 1,023 seat belts and infant safety restraint citations. DPS enforcement efforts additionally led to 256 DWI arrests, 212 fugitive arrests, and 204 prison arrests.

Operation CARE focuses on violations of the kingdom’s Move Over, Slow Down law, with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) assisting DPS Troopers in a non-enforcement capability. From Jan. 1 via June 25 of this year, DPS carried out 13,988 enforcement movements for Move Over, Slow Down violations. Drivers are advised to observe those protection hints for the duration of the Fourth of July holiday:

Do not drink and drive. Make trade tour plans if you are eating alcohol. If you could Steer It, Clear It: If you’re involved in a non-damage crash, and our vehicle may be moved, clear the site visitors’ lanes to minimize the impact on traffic. Leaving cars in a site visitors lane not best will increase traffic congestion. However, it also leaves the ones involved with an expanded risk of damage and danger for a secondary collision. On a few highways, it’s far, without a doubt, a violation of the regulation to not move your car over while it’s miles safe to do so. Move Over or Slow Down for police, fireplace, EMS, TxDOT motors, and tow vans stopped on the aspect of the street with emergency lighting fixtures activated. Also, display equal courtesy to fellow drivers stopped alongside the street.

Slow down — especially in horrific climate, construction regions, heavy site visitors, and unfamiliar regions.
Eliminate distractions at the same time as using, together with using mobile devices. Texas regulation prohibits using a transportable wi-fi device to study, write or send electronic mail except the vehicle is stopped.
Buckle up each person within the automobile — it’s the law. Drive defensively, as an excursion journey can also present extra demanding situations.

Don’t power fatigued — allow plenty of time to attain your destination. If you notice a road danger or in case you have a look at anything suspicious, record it to the closest regulation enforcement organization. On multi-lane roadways, use the left lane for passing only. Not handiest is it courteous riding and avoids impeding visitors; Texas regulation calls for slower site visitors to hold to the proper and handiest use the left lane for passing (when published). Before your trip begins, ensure your car is nicely maintained and constantly double take a look at to ensure all shipment is comfy. Monitor weather and street conditions anyplace you’re journeying.
