Pankaj Tripathi is not captivated by power. What pastimes, he is giving faces to the unknown “colorful” people who are comfortable getting lost inside the crowd. “I’m not interested in power. (I’m) Not hungry for it in any respect,” Tripathi says in an interview with PTI. The actor had a breakthrough as the menacing butcher Sultan Qureshi in Gangs of Wasseypur and has broken the mold and chronicled unique lives on screen: a mild instructor, a progressive father, and a humorous uncle. “People often supply me powerful roles, but the joy of being a powerless guy is unmatched. Everyone is hungry for electricity. A husband, who’s at a low post in an office hierarchy, comes home and becomes the boss. There’s power-play even in love, between couples,” he adds.
Few have a look at the unassuming lot that does not crave authority, the actor says. And Tripathi unearths this area exciting. “I feel nobody desires to be given powerless human beings. No one aspires to be that. Why can’t we have people who do not want to make an identity and get lost within the crowd? It’s an exciting place. In Masaan, I had simple scenes. He books train tickets, and that’s his lifestyle. Even the teacher in Nil Battey Sannata, no one knows him.
“These characters constantly pull me toward them because I grew up watching humans like these. If we seek, some people are just doing their task without going for walks after electricity, fame, or money.” It becomes this arc, which Tripathi located as exciting, approximately in the upcoming Hotstar Special Criminal Justice. The show is the Indian adaptation of the hit BBC-produced series of the same name, which was later adapted into the Emmy Award-winning HBO series The Night.
Tripathi, who portrays attorney Madhav Mishra within the thriller series, says the display touches upon society’s modern-day state of affairs. “Madhav Mishra struggles every day for survival, the outdoor court docket,t on the lookout for a customer.
